October newsletter: a workshop, a print shop and being creative

Limited edition prints from States of Mind now on sale - click the image to find out more!

It’s been a busy month!

I have decided that it is time to try and make my art a part of my career. So I have been spending time promoting my work as well as some other ideas I have for 2024. But I have also tried to make sure that I have been creative as well.

What I’ve been up to this month

I have been working hard on my Bybrook project. In order to keep the momentum up, I have committed to creating at least one edit every day. This has given me a number of ideas from which to develop the project further.

“The Floor At The Arnolfini” has been selling well and over half the copies have gone. I really appreciate each sale: thank you to those of you who have bought a copy. It has been wonderful to see prints going to France, America and Australia, amongst other destinations. You can still purchase a copy for only £6 + P&P, and you can add prints from just £5.50. The limited-edition print sets have sold out but I have added some artist’s proof print sets. Find out more here.

I have also had some limited edition prints from my States of Mind series on sale in two local galleries. They are also available online: order prints here.

Finally, I am delighted to announce that I am running an online workshop with Rob Knight. This will be a safe space to:

  • Explore ideas and surroundings visually in new ways

  • Create varied stylistic interpretations of subjects

  • Challenge your current photographic styles

It runs from the 18th February 2024 to the 24th March 2024.  Bookings will open later this month but please reply to this e-mail if you would like to find out more or reserve a place.

What I learned this month

This month has been a lesson in how momentum can suddenly build when one is pursuing a passion or a vision. It has also showed me that often things can take a little while to come together but that patience will be rewarded.

What are my plans for next month?

I want to spend some time with the edits that I have made for my Bybrook project. My plan is to try and tease out some themes and create panels or series of images around this.

I will also be planning The Vision and I am also working on some other workshop ideas. I also plan to get some greetings cards printed. It’s going to be another busy month!

What I’ve been writing about this month

There was so much going on this month that I haven’t found the time or mental space to write a blog. But I do have some ideas that will take my writing in new directions. Watch this space!

What have I been listening to this month

I was lucky enough to see James in concert with an orchestra and choir - they have released an album of this collaboration “Be Opened By The Wonderful”. It is well worth listening to if you are a James fan, although it doesn’t have the power of the live performance. I also enjoyed the “World’s End FM” album by Hak Baker.

What have I seen this month

It has been a while, but I got to see some art exhibitions this month. If you are able to travel to Bath then I recommend the art of Gwen John and the pottery of Lucie Rie, both showing at the Holburne museum.

Make sure you keep in touch

You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Mastodon. Twitter seems to be emptying rapidly, so I have also joined Bluesky social. It does seem to be a very good community. You can find me here. Please also e-mail directly: I really enjoy the conversations I have with those of you who have contacted me. I love to see image and projects that you are proud of. And do send me recommendations for reading, listening, exhibitions, blog articles and more!
