5 ways to see better
Share
It all begins with seeing
Photography is nothing without a vision about what is in front of us. The best photographers make us look at something ordinary in a new way. Or they bring attention to something we would not have considered looking at.
Here are my five top tips if you want to see more:
1. Slow down
Take time to enjoy what is around you rather than worrying that you have to make great images.
2. Adopt a mindful approach
Mindfulness helps us to focus on the here and now. It helps us be present and enjoy the moment. It’s an important photography skill.
3. Develop peripheral vision
Peripheral vision can draw our attention to something that we might normally just have passed by. And it can change our sense of perspective as well.
4. Play
Try something different and see what happens. Spend time with subjects that you might not normally photography. Or go crazy with your framing!
5. Work locally
Travel isn’t necessary to make good images. There is so much that we can enjoy in our homes or just a few minutes away. We just need to learn to see it.
I explore these five points in more depth in my new forthcoming book “A Deeper Way Of Seeing: Developing Your Photographic Voice”
It’s all part of a chapter on how the art of attention improves our photography.
